Module Architecture

Module architecture at Master academic studies in Architecture is formed to cover the diversity of contemporary methodologies and innovative approaches to architectural design. The main achievement of the Module architecture is to prepare students for operational work in the field of architectural design practice through exposure to all diverse aspects of the design process: from the theoretical concepts and critical approaches of the current architectural discourse; through the application of concepts in architectural design that integrates and satisfies the aesthetic aspects of a building and the technical requirements of its construction and the needs of the user; to the understanding of the constructional and structural systems, the environmental strategies and the regulatory requirements that apply to the design and construction of a comprehensive design project.

The design assignments stimulate understanding and interpretation of the relation between man, architectural and urban structures and their environment. These relations are studied on all levels, including a specific critical reflection on contemporary education (M01A), co-creation and communities (M02A), culture (M03A), as well as on contemporary lifestyles, local identities, transitional and hybrid models in architecture. Work in the Studio involves a broader insight into understanding contemporary society’s needs, which implies knowledge from other disciplines that provide a complex intellectual ground encouraging comprehensive thinking through a practical and theoretical response to the complex architectural assignment. The focus of theoretical work is within the Studio seminar. The practical part of the work is in the form of architectural design that should present a clear concept and provide practical skills in the domain of architectural and urban design. Working within the given thematic framework, students independently combine all the gained knowledge and skills through the processes of research, formulation, conception, and development of the design and materialisation of complex architectural and urban units. The final part of the Master’s academic studies consists Master Final Project represents an assignment of the highest level of complexity and the highest degree of student independence.
