MUSEUM OF CIVILIZATION
The aim of the task is to develop the ability to examine the possibility of creating new program-ambient qualities in Belgrade in relation to the given thematic framework, through a complex synthetic analysis. Through the incorporation of modern solutions that examine the relationship of architecture to the general, often sensitive issues of human society development, students should produce an architectural-urban project of the Museum of Civilization in the area bordered by Bulevar Oslobođenja and Tabanovačka streets. The primary goal is for students to further their knowledge of architecture as a complex system and design guided by modern philosophical settings and spatial principles while practicing architecture as a multidimensional discipline. The broader thematic framework is oriented towards knowing and understanding the different positions that the issue of the development of civilization occupies in culture today and indicates the connection between architectural works and the complex society characterized by urban development. Moving from a design focus to an incomparably broader context of understanding today’s culture, which should rely on a high degree of social harmony, the Museum of Civilization can be interpreted as a spatial framework for examining the interdisciplinary relationship of different areas of human activity. The research through a topic set in this way raises the question of how the basic characteristics of a civilized society can be re-examined in the current spatial framework, which is additionally marked by the existing memorial park, with perceived separation and dominance over the environment. That is, whether architecture is able to be eloquent and precise enough to point out the numerous open questions of the identity of the social order that promotes the creation of culture. In this approach, the activities and programs of numerous activities that the future Museum should have, such as exhibition, research, education, presentation, etc., are intertwined and supplemented. It is widely researched both through the topic and the environment, which is conditioned by the given location in the part of the existing city block bordered by Bulevar Oslobođenja and Tabanovačka streets in Belgrade. By creating new values while respecting the existing ones, students will work on improving the current context through its character, physiognomy, and semantics.
