Studio 01B - Urban Design of Residential Assemblies

This course represents a logical upgrade of students’ knowledge acquired during the first year of studying theories of the main morphological and functional aspects of cities. This is the first applicable subject in the field of urbanism, especially urban design, applied through the design of small residential assemblies with associated public spaces. The objectives are to learn how to analyze a particular urban context at different spatial levels, to develop the ability to understand the elements and essence of the local identity of a place and the placemaking process, as well as to introduce students to the basics of sustainability. This course was realized in strong cooperation with the course Studio 01a – Family housing during the same semester, while it was followed by the course Studio 02a – Sustainable urban communities during the next semester. So, this course represents a link between the theoretical and more complex practical application of knowledge in the field of Urbanism and Urban Design.
