SUSTAINABLE URBAN COMMUNITIES
The main goals of the studio project classes are: – Learning the basic methods, techniques and tools in drafting and designing sustainable urban communities. – Further development and deepening of acquired basic urban design skills through researching the possibilities for action within more complex urban units in the actual environment. – Learning the methods and techniques of assessment and evaluation of the presented solutions in accordance with the set goals. Theory classes: conducted within the course OASA 24071 studio 02a – sustainable urban communities. Practical classes: Exploring the possibilities for transformation and improvement of a given existing smaller urban unit in accordance with the principles of sustainability. Based on the integral analysis of the territory and understanding of the context, students will have the task to define, conceptually design and evaluate the quality of the proposed transformation from the aspect of sustainability through the conceptual urban elaboration of the spatial whole, in the sense of space, function and form. The methodology of the project includes 4 different levels of consideration of the issue of sustainable development of the settlement community: – The conceptual level at which the transformation process of crucial developmental factors in time is integrally reviewed with an emphasis on its outcome in space. – The level of urban structure at which the programmatic and spatial arrangements are articulated at the level of the solution of the whole settlement. – The level of urbanistic-architectural elaboration at which the possibilities of improving the existing norms and standards of design from one/more aspects of sustainability are considered.
