DRIVE-IN CULTURAL CENTER
The aim is to introduce students to the elements of research work that should precede the development of the project and help them master analytical and critical thinking. It is necessary to conduct an analysis, explore the programmatic potentials and do an architectural-urban project of an art and culture center at a given location. Through work on specific tasks related to architectural-urban design, students develop the ability to apply the conclusions of the theoretical part of the analysis, the skills necessary for designing architectural-urban assemblies, as well as the coordination of these aspects with technological and constructive conditions of the project. The “Drive-In” cultural center represents a space for the promotion of contemporary culture and art through a synthesis with future work concepts in the newly created post-pandemic context. It is expected that after conducting research on the social and spatial context, students will explore the possibilities of developing new forms of spatial structures for the production, presentation, and consumption of art in the real and hypothetical circumstances of the post-pandemic world. The new spatial structures rely on the examination of new ways of movement and mobility of people both at the level of the city and at the level of microlocation. The programmatic potential of designing workspaces includes re-examining the modern concepts of work (co-working, desk-sharing, teleworking, hoteling, home office, satellite office, etc.) and combining them with the primary functions of production and promotion of culture and art in Belgrade, with an emphasis on mobility, hybridity, flexibility, and new forms of sociability. The “Drive-In” cultural center is expected to be an innovative space, a dynamic gathering place for projects intertwining and generating new trends in culture and work in the field of art.
