MEETING PLACES
The aim of working on the master’s thesis is for students to define meeting places in the urban fabric through a theoretical research process and critical consideration, and also to recognize the complexity of the social, political, historical, cultural, and spatial context that forms the basis for creating and exploring the architectural-urban framework, possible interventions, and needs of the contemporary moment. The research process within the work on the master thesis aims at establishing a theoretical basis and an adequate project task for further development of the master’s project. The thematic framework of the master’s thesis and project are the meeting places recognized as public contents and city institutions that attract users and generate the energy of urban life expressed through the architectural framework of new spatial solutions for a particular context or location. The thematic framework in this regard depends on the research process and the specific site. The spatial framework of the thesis and design project involves the creation of a potential meeting place in the wider spatial framework of the Sava Square in Belgrade, i.e., more specifically, in the hinterland of the former Belgrade Railway Station with the potential inclusion of the station in the program, oriented to the west side – the Sava River, up to the newly planned traffic roundabouts of the Belgrade Waterfront.
