REPUBLIC SQUARE – CENTER OF CULTURE
The thematic framework of the Master thesis is the research of the possibilities of (re) contextualization and affirmation of the potential of the location of former industrial/service/storage/transport facilities, today inactive or temporarily activated spaces in the urban fabric. The subject of the thesis involves the re-examination of architecture as a discipline that is causally and consequentially related to the socio-economic and cultural characteristics of the environment in which it occurs within the context of modern society.
The spatial frameworks for selecting a specific location are the spaces of the former industrial/service/storage/transport facilities in the urban area of the city of Belgrade (or another city, as per the affinity and experience of the candidate).
The complexity of a spatial situation derives from the hierarchical position of its location in the city fabric and the conditions in which its original purpose has become redundant in terms of the modern context, which implies the possibility of transformation into new urban content, programmatically defined through research of the characteristics of the relationship between the place, social and particular needs, and everyday activities.
