Introducing students to the basic methods and techniques of location analysis and urban design. Gaining experience in the application of theoretical knowledge about the design of the space in order to solve practical tasks in the urban design process. Development of skills for urban design of small urban units, mostly of residential character.
Theory is focused on introducing students to the basics and principles of urban design of small, mostly residential, urban units. The issue is considered at different spatial and problem levels in relation to a specific natural and social context. The accent is on the specifics of arranging, designing and building areas intended for housing, as a result of which the following thematic units are treated separately:
- Housing elements and structure: apartment and habitat; living in city; typologies of residential space in the city;
- Different aspects of housing in the city: spatial aspect of housing; functional aspect of housing; socio-cultural aspect of housing; economic aspect of housing;
Functional bases of housing development; Needs, activities and spaces; Types of space; Networks and locations; Specifics of designing residential urban spaces: housing policies and strategies; planning conditions; program-spatial concepts; design, arrangement and equipment of habitats and residential complexes; possibilities for improvement of existing living spaces, Program-spatial concepts; Design, arrangement and equipment.
