UTOPIA FOR REALISTS: SMALL ECONOMIC CENTERS
The general aim of the course is to research the phenomenon of modern architecture and apply the scope of research to a specific architectural program through work on the theory and practice of urban architecture. A special goal of the research is the development of a conceptual architectural and urbanistic solution for a small city center on a site in Belgrade, along with the improvement of the architectural design knowledge and skills acquired during studies and course work. The theoretical part of the course consists of presenting and researching the focus of current architectural practice, with particular reference to the experimental concepts of urban architecture in the second half of the twentieth century. The program of the Studio Project is accompanied by a seminar, which, through working on the architectural diagram as a specific tool in architectural research, analyzes and develops the concepts and phenomena of modern architecture. The practical part of the course consists of applying the research results to a specific architectural project. In addition to the outcomes listed in the attached criteria, by setting up a diagrammatic program unit, the students are introduced to spatial-programmatic concepts and models and their translation into the interaction of the idea and the realization of the idea. In the project development phase, students improve their architectural design skills and knowledge through the harmonization and synchronization of regulations, construction, materialization, and installation systems at the level of the conceptual architectural and urbanistic project.
