PARTICIPATORY DESIGN
Introducing and training students to act in the field of participatory urban design, i.e., for expert work on developing urbanistic projects for complex urban areas using the active involvement of the public, local community and other relevant stakeholders in the processes of urban planning, design and implementation. Exploring the developmental possibilities of complex urban spaces, as well as the possibilities of their improvement using various participatory methods and techniques. The possibilities and limitations in which the field of urban design finds its adequate role in the developmental processes of the city are investigated, by applying various methods and techniques that, in these processes, ensure the participation of the most relevant stakeholders. As the main, subject area: a) the general characteristics of a broader thematic field in the spatial-functional sense are defined; b) specific characteristics and qualities of the existing state of the problem subunit are defined; local stakeholders relevant to the future urban development of the area are analyzed and activated; adequate case studies in local and foreign practices are comparatively investigated; adequate methods and techniques for participatory urban design are identified; c) with the adequate involvement of selected stakeholders, the potentials of selected proposed development programs are explored while also considering the potential effects of the implementation of specific projects and exploring the possibilities of their territorial and/ or thematic connection.
